The Maison de la Bourse de Saint-Pierre, jewel of Creole architecture and witness of the prosperity of Saint-Pierre in the nineteenth century

The current building is due to Gérard Jacqua, architect of the buildings of France. This is the identical reconstruction on its original foundations of the Chamber of Commerce destroyed by the eruptions of 1902.

scholarship.jpg This reconstruction had the following objectives: – to restore a building, a true archetype of Creole architecture and witness to the refinement and prosperity of Saint-Pierre at the end of the nineteenth century; – to offer the city a place of tourist information, exhibition and meetings; – to participate in the requalification of Place Bertin and the revitalization of the town centre. It is now a municipal space assigned to the heritage department of the City of Saint-Pierre, labeled city of art and history.
